The Potterville Public Schools Board of Education is seeking a qualified Superintendent of Schools to lead the District into the future.

Potterville Public School District is located in Potterville, Michigan.  The District is a combination of delightful neighborhoods, semi-rural properties, and a quaint small town.  The District is a few miles south west of Lansing in Eaton County.  It is conveniently located off I-69 near the State Capitol Complex.  Michigan State University, Lansing Community College, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, night life, shopping, and recreation in the greater Lansing area are within minutes of Potterville.  It is also near Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Lansing Lugnuts, which is an affiliate of the American League Toronto Blue Jays.

The elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as all athletic fields and playgrounds, are on the campus which is surrounded by a friendly neighborhood.  The administration building which houses child care, adult education, central administration, and meeting and conference rooms is located on campus as well.

The central administrative staff consists of the superintendent, business manager, and administrative assistant located in the administration building.  Each of the three schools has a principal and administrative assistant.  The instructional staff includes fifty-five dedicated teachers and the non-instructional staff includes forty-five hard-working para-professionals.

Potterville Public Schools offers a full k-12 curriculum including fine arts and physical education, which is supported by extensive classroom and building technology.  The District also offers to those students who qualify full special education services.  The innovative Student Support Network program provides counseling, social work, and other emotional and physical support to students.

The District's annual budget is approximately nine million dollars.  The most recent audited fund balance was 6.8%.  There is a sinking fund, which supports infrastructure improvements across all of the schools and administration building.  Dean Transportation provides general and extra transportation under contract through the 2019-20 school year.  Special education transportation is provided through the Eaton Regional Education Service Agency.,

The seven-member Potterville Public Schools Board of Education serve four-year terms.  Members average about three years of service on the Board.  Board meetings are the first and third Monday of the month.  Board meetings are the first and third Monday of the month.  The first meeting is a work session the board uses for professional development or to discuss District topics.  The second meeting is the regular meeting and includes special reports, items for action, discussion, or information, and the superintendent's report.

Application Procedure
The Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) has the privilege of facilitating process.  After garnering stakeholder input, the Board of Education will provide a detailed profile of the ideal candidate.  The Board has established a base salary range of $95,000 to $105,000; negotiated salary and benefits package will be commensurate with the chosen candidate's experience and qualifications.

After the candidate profile is posted, on or about November 30th, interested candidates should complete and submit an online application found at: http://www.masb.org/education-careers.aspx.  Completed online applications must be submitted no later than 4:00 pm on January 29, 2018.  No "hard copy," fax pr emailed copies will be accepted.  If requested by the candidate, materials will be treated confidentially through the screening process.  Candidate names will become public at the time an interview is scheduled.\

Superintendent Candidate Profile

Potterville Public Schools is seeking a highly collaborative, community-focused leader with a strong work ethic who puts the welfare of all students first in everything that they do.  The right individual will have experience in the classroom and in an educational leadership role.  They will understand curriculum and appreciate the contributions that all staff make towards the betterment of our students.

-Understands budgets, school finance, and operating a small district on limited resources
-Understands the legal issues related to running a public school system in Michigan

Professional Background
-K-12 classroom teaching experience preferred
-Previous educational leadership experience
-Previous experience as a superintendent of a local school district preferred

-Strong background in school finance
-Strong background in curriculum and instruction
-Central Administration Certification preferred or willingness to pursue such within 6 months of hire

Please Note: While not a requirement, familiarity with Policy Governance is preferred.  The Board anticipates including in the new superintendent's contract a provision for mutual agreement on a date by which the new superintendent will establish and maintain his or her family residence no further than twenty miles from the boundary line of the school district, in compliance with MCL 15.602.  Further; the Board will require the new superintendent to complete a pre-employment physical, at the board's expense, prior to execution of the contract.
